The present is looking futuristic, and the future’s looking good for Phoenix, home of the Super Bowl in 2015. With $4 billion to spiff up the city’s “urban core,” it begins, perhaps, with Civic Space Park (424 North Central Avenue). The park holds free lunchtime concerts, with gourmet food trucks serving up fare, plus evening movie screenings. Overhead is the sculpture by American artist Janet Echelman, representing desert wind patterns. The title, Her Secret is Patience, is lifted from a Ralph Waldo Emerson line, “Adopt the pace of nature: her secret is patience.” Deeeep.
